"Hold me 'til it's over. How much time 'til Doomsday comes?" These words form the backbone of this track from its tense acoustic intro to its full-on rock conclusion. Originally released as part of 2016's Green Album, an indie compilation which has helped Rainforest Trust secure the funding to conserve more than 10,000 acres of rainforest to date in the DRC and elsewhere, this song's purpose has always been to help listeners process & survive those things which terrify us. Singer-producer S. J. Tucker hopes, with this remix release, to lend emotional support to all who need it in our so-far perilous new century and oncoming new decade. Find community you love, build upon it, cherish those who help you maintain it, and your hope can never completely die. We can survive whatever comes as long as we take care of one another, no matter the time on the Doomsday Clock.
From S. J.'s blog, when she first completed writing the song in early 2015:
"I don’t usually write songs that frighten me, but this one is the essence of turning one of your nightmares (one that isn’t necessarily far fetched, to be exact) into art...My intent is to share and to deal with the things that frighten me, in an artistic way, as a citizen of the modern world, in hopes of comforting others who suffer from the same fears. I am not a conspiracy theorist or a fatalist. I’m just a songwriter who’s chosen to take this particular subject matter very seriously."
lyrics
Three minutes to midnight; hold your loved ones close and tight.
Watch the stars and hold the light burning in your heart.
Countdown in progress; live your life and kill the stress,
speculation's blazing guest 'til the whole thing comes apart.
Hold me 'til it's over.
How much time 'til Doomsday comes?
Hold me 'til it's over.
How much time?
Too young to know better, old enough to stand and fight,
watch the stars and hold the light 'til it swallows up the sun.
Got it down to a science. Destination: recompense.
Is there any common sense in counting down to one?
Hold me 'til it's over.
How much time 'til Doomsday comes?
Hold me 'til it's over.
How much time?
It's not enough to see. It's not enough to believe.
Keep your eyes wide open, oh,
It's not enough to see. It's not enough to believe.
It's not enough to chase these dreams of peace.
If nothing changes, nothing grows,
no rotted towers overthrown.
It's not enough to see. It's not enough to believe.
It's not enough to chase these dreams, so
Hold me 'til it's over.
How much time 'til Doomsday comes?
Hold me 'til it's over.
How much time?
How much time?
How much time?
How much time?
Three minutes to midnight; hold your loved ones close and tight.
Watch the stars and hold the light burning in your heart.

“Without our songs and stories, we are nothing.” S. J. Tucker has been captain of her own music career since 2004, when she
left the workaday world behind to sing songs and change lives. Tucker is the voice of lore at the campfire and the sharp laughter of modern myth. With one hand anchored in her art and the other held out to us, she is songs and stories, community and wit....more
I would happily stroll the green with the Professor if the opportunity came. So very posh, and yet so very silly. Who wouldn't love a chap like this? He inspires me to parasol-rap of my own. <3 S. J. Tucker
Ginger (they, them) is my favorite recording engineer, bandmate, soulmate, and straight-up genius. This Cocoon is their first solo release. Favorite track: "Made It Home". I sang backup on "Masks" S. J. Tucker
