about

Tricky Pixie recorded this version of "Come to the Labyrinth" during the sessions for Mythcreants in late 2007, but the song did not make it onto the album. This is the first-ever release of the band's arrangement of Sooj's song about annually walking the Candlelight Labyrinth at Summerland Grove's Festival of Souls in Tennessee, under a Samhain moon.

From S. J.:
"'Labyrinth' is my Samhain song. I came straight home from walking the big Candlelight Labyrinth at Festival of Souls and wrote this. Recording it with Alec and Betsy was an incredibly moving experience, and I'm thrilled to get to share the band's version of the song as part of Witchy Ways at last.
Alec's studio at the Ridge was a little apartment above a garage, out in the country. We all stayed out there and worked on the album together over the course of a couple of weeks. It was Election Week 2007, and emotions were running high. I remember watching Alec record his fiddle part for my little song and being moved to tears. Hearing Alec and Betsy sing the "we are not alone" counterpoint, during the extended section towards the end, I can't help but smile. I left my silly asides at the beginning of the song on purpose, just in case anybody's feeling too serious right now.
Recording "Labyrinth" with the band is an experience that I'll never forget. There is so much magic(k) in the world, and we should all count ourselves fortunate when we get to feel it, make it, or experience it."

lyrics

Walk between the worlds, bravely down the candle road.
The light will lead you deep into your core.
Move into the center, add your sorrow to the coals
with the incense rising, steady as a prayer.
Though the heart is heavy as the dance is burning down,
may you raise your eyes and never bow your head,
For we are not alone.

It only takes the tiniest of fires sometimes
to light the way you knew was aways there.
In the heart of matters, it's the journey keeps us warm,
the lights that lead us where we are to go.
May you raise your eyes and know with every step:
we are not alone.

We are come to the labyrinth tonight,
walking one by one.
In the dark of Samhain, a riddle burning bright,
and the candles waving down.

It only takes the tiniest of fires sometimes
to light the way you knew was always waiting for you there.
In the heart of matters, it's the journey keeps us warm
and the incense rises steady as a prayer
May you raise your eyes and never bow your head.

We are come to the labyrinth tonight,
walking one by one.
In the dark of Samhain, a riddle burning bright,
and the candles waving down.
We are vessels of the highest love
in a lesson, burning bright, the lesson of our lives.
When all our sorrows cauldron into one,
be reborn, this Samhain night. (We are not alone.)

We are come to the labyrinth tonight,
and the candles waving down.
