about

From S. J.:
My loudness comes out in unexpected, satisfying ways when I go to my Nine Inch Nails place. And it's been a while. :) This is my first goth industrial protest song.

While searching for things to inspire me towards the prompts "hell" and "Fortissimo", I was reminded that in Dante's Inferno, depending on the translation, politicians are said to boil eternally in tar pits. That gave me the starting spark I needed.

Crowd audio in this song is courtesy of my Freesound.org colleague Tim Kahn, aka Corsica_S, recorded last November in Portland, OR, just after the 2016 US election.

Some of the loops are shamelessly taken from what Logic could give me quickly that fit the mood I was after, with a bit of sly EQ added. Audiophile friends have told me the mix sounds perfect to them though, so here goes.

lyrics

HURRY HOME c. S. J. Tucker 2017

Nobody's listening.

May no one remember your story.
May nobody care who you are.
Go down in a void of glory.
Go and boil in your own pit of tar.

"Hell is murky," so she said.
You started out in over your head.
Go on and tell yourself we wish we were you,
but it's not true.

Go on and dig your own grave.
Hurry home to hell.

Sad little king of a sad little hill.
You're not taking the rest of us with you.
Not the way you think you will.

May no one remember your story,
no eyes on your vitriol stream.
Bless the freaks who will all outlast you
and take back their American dream.

Nobody's listening.
How does it feel?

This is the curse. This is the spell.
Hurry on home to hell.

"Hell is murky," so she said.
You started out in over your head.
Keep telling yourself we wish we were you,
but it's not true.

Go on and dig your own grave.
Hurry home to hell.
