about

Released as part of Solace & Sorrow with its companion story segment, "Ember Queen, Ash Queen", "Kashkash" is a cautionary rhyme for the children of the Djinn (and human children, as well) to mind their manners, or else the king of the Djinn, Kashkash, will come out of the fireplace to gobble them up!

From S. J.:
"I chose "Kashkash" to be part of the Witchy Ways mix tape because it's the lighthearted side of creepy and scary- the kind of song that kids and adults love for its sing-song threat. Kashkash is another kind of boogeyman, but he's sort of a cross between the boogeyman and Santa Claus. Imagine THAT as a Halloween costume..!"

lyrics

peeking through the embers
stirring up a storm
kashkash is watching you
and keeping you from harm

Ember Ash and Kindling
pretty kings and queens
counting out your wishes
lighting up your dreams

listen to your mother
when she takes you to town
for kashkash gobbles all
the naughty children down

Hearth, Tinder, Flint & Steel
pretty kings and queens
granting all your wishes
dancing in your dreams

never make a wish that will
make your mother frown
for kashkash gobbles all
the naughty children down
