about

Composed on the beach in Florida, under a full moon, my song-sisters walking the sand by my side, "La Sirene" is just what is sounds like: a celebration, a prayer.
In Haitian Vodou, La Sirene of the Lwa is the wife of Met Agwe, he who pilots the ship of the dead. All the treasures of the ocean belong to her, and she is said to take precedence in your life if you aren't taking enough time for yourself. Mambo T of Chicago says she's lovely, and my limited experiences of her have led me to agree.

About the recording: the shaker you hear is actually a salt shaker full of sea salt. Also, my clay pot Udu drum has its first outing since the recording of "Neptune" in this song.

lyrics

I pray to La Sirene
she who calls the waves her own
I pray to La Sirene
I pray to La Sirene
I dance for La Sirene
she who calls the waves her own...
I sing for La Sirene
she who calls the waves her own...
I sing for La Sirene
I sing for La Sirene
I pray to La Sirene

final tag:
I sing for La Sirene
I dance for La Sirene
I pray to La Sirene

counterpoint 1:
sirens sisters singing low
show me how your gardens grow
tell me how how the current flows
teach me how to breathe below

let what flows through me prove as true
as roll of ocean under moon
upon the shore I'll sing to you
I'll gladly come and see you soon

water bids me come and dance
to float on top and take a chance
by water be this spell enhanced
say hail and welcome now
I pray to La Sirene

help my voice like siren song
ring out bright and clear and strong
to keep on singing my life long
I pray to La Sirene

let what flows through me prove as true
as roll of ocean under moon
upon the shore i'll sing to you
I'll gladly come and see you soon

help my voice like siren song
ring out bright and clear and strong
to keep on singing my life long
I pray to La Sirene
I pray to La Sirene

counterpoint 2:
Yemaya, o ya Mambo
Yemaya, o ya Mambo
Yemaya, o ya Mambo
pray to La Sirene

counterpoint 3:
I sing for La Sirene
I sing for La Sirene
I pray to La Sirene
I pray to La Sirene
